The Original Garden Visitor's Guide

Burford House & Garden

At Burford House Gardens, the former National Clematis Collection is being lovingly restored to its previous glory. The gardens were once home to one of the best collections of clematis in the country until a period of neglect led to its decline.

From 2013, an army of amazing volunteers, aptly named Burford House Garden Angels, have been working hard to restore the 4 acre gardens situated on the banks of the River Teme to their former glory. The garden was designed and laid out by the late John Treasure in the 1950s and was once home to at least 300 different varieties of clematis.

In 2014 the Burford House Garden Angels reintroduced 3 each of 100 varieties bringing the latest total to 270 varieties. The Georgian House is now home to 2 floors of quality retail shopping and there is a reclamation outlet within the old Coach House. Work has also taken place to re-build and paint the historic gazebo. The site also includes a well-stocked garden centre within the former walled garden and a licensed Café Bar serving from breakfast through lunch to afternoon tea.
