Castle Howard

Discover a mixture of sweeping vistas, lakeside terraces, woodland, temples, statues and formal gardens in the vast grounds of Castle Howard just outside York.

In the 18th century walled garden seasonal highlights include a stunning collection of heritage roses, a sea of blue and white delphiniums, herbaceous borders and a carp pond creating the perfect English garden. In the ornamental vegetable garden, sweet pea wigwams sit amongst traditional garden crops.

The imposing Atlas Fountain dominates the south parterre, which also boasts an impressive collection of lead statues and a carpet of golden daffodils in spring. The Temple of The Four Winds gives stunning 360 degree views of the rolling Howardian Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Ray Wood houses a prestigious collection of rhododendrons as well as rare botanical finds from around the world. Browse the extensive garden centre, plus gift shop, farm shop and cafes. Dogs on leads welcome.
