The Original Garden Visitor's Guide

Chelsea Physic Garden

Founded in 1673 by The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London as a place for their apprentices to study useful and medicinal plants, Chelsea Physic Garden is London’s oldest botanic garden. Throughout the 18th century the Garden was one of the most important centres of botany and plant exchange in the world.

Today London’s Secret Garden is home to over 5000 plants and its micro-climate means that it can grow many plants that you may not expect to see growing outside in London. Highlights include Europe’s oldest rockery; Tropical Corridor, Victorian Cool Fernery, Garden of Edible & Useful Plants, the Garden of Medicinal Plants and the World Woodland Garden. The Book & Gift Shop and award winning ‘Tangerine Dream Cafe’ are open during public open days.
