Evenley Wood Garden
Set amongst Northamptonshire's beautiful countryside, this 60-acre privately owned woodland garden was purchased in 1980 by Timothy Whiteley. Since then, Mr. Whiteley has worked alongside talented gardeners to nurture the land into what it is today - a place which welcomes all to enjoy, explore, and appreciate nature.
The season begins in February when carpets of named snowdrops appear throughout the woodland, followed by a variety of wonderful spring bulbs. The garden's unusual band of acid soil also allows the cultivation of plants that would not normally thrive in this location, including rhododendrons, camellias and magnolias, which bring colour and enjoyment every year.
Summertime features a collection of over 150 lilies and 300 roses, and visitors can delight in a variety of plants which were developed and propagated on site, such as Lilium 'Evenley Jane' (named after Mrs. Whiteley) and L. 'Garden Society'.
As the season slows down, a wonderful display of autumn colours can be seen in the leaf, bark, seeds and berries of the garden's trees, ranging from beautiful rustic oranges and fiery reds, to greens, golds and browns.
