Forde Abbey – Sweet Pea fortnight
Saturday, July 4, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm
With the sweet peas already in bloom at Forde Abbey, predominantly in the walled kitchen garden, the fortnight looks likely to last longer than just two weeks. Last year it even extended into August!
Over 60 varieties of sweet pea are being grown, each on its own “wigwam”, to make identifying and choosing your favourite(s) easier. Keen photographers are asked to rise to the challenge and submit photos to the Forde Abbey Photo Competition http://www.fordeabbey.co.uk/events/photo-competition
Bunches of the flowers scent the tearoom and the house, and if you’re lucky you might find some on sale at the gift shop. Just walking through the kitchen garden you are surrounded by a cloud of perfume and blossom – truly not to be missed.
Normal garden admission rates apply (Gardens only £10 adults, children under 15 free; House and Gardens £12 adults, children under 15 free). Don’t miss the delicious delights of the Tearoom; an array of gifts and souvenirs in the Shop; interesting, unusual or “just” beautiful plants at the Plant Nursery; and wonderful pottery on sale at the Eeles Pottery Showroom – where you might also catch one of the family actually “potting”.
