Lullingstone is also delighted to host during our 10th anniversary celebration weekend the Sevenoaks Tree Society’s popular exhibition “The Remarkable Trees of Sevenoaks” to be held in the Great Hall. New for the 2015 exhibition will be the remarkable trees in The World Garden, Castle grounds and Lullingstone Park, home to over 300 internationally important ancient oaks and other species.
Featuring stunning photographs of individual trees, the exhibition covers a range of topics such as the stories behind them and their links with the ancient woodlands, grand estates and the development and character of the town and countryside.
Famous for its oaks, Sevenoaks is internationally known as “One Oak” after the devastating hurricane of October 1987, although there are still many other notable trees in the area. All the trees are remarkable for their age, size, beauty, ecological importance or historical and cultural associations (ranging from Henry VIII to The Beatles!). Many have fascinating stories to tell, including tales of daring and bravery of Britain’s plant-hunters including those from Tom Hart Dyke!
