Bennetts Water Gardens
This 8 acre garden holds a National Plant Collection® of Water Lilies with a Monet style Japanese Bridge as the centrepiece. Over 140 different varieties produce tens-of-thousands of flowers through the summer. Many original water lilies planted here by the Bennett family in 1959 came from the same nursery that supplied Claude Monet’s garden in France.
Grass pathways lead visitors around the gardens which are a Site of Nature Conservation Interest with abundant flora and fauna. There are scenic places to sit and unwind and woodland walks to explore. The Tropical House contains exotic plants including a cacti collection.
A museum of local history includes Chickerell village (mentioned in the Domesday Book) and Chesil Beach & Fleet lagoon on Dorset’s World Heritage Jurassic Coast, plus the story of this site from the Brickworks of 1859 through to the gardens of today. The licensed restaurant serves delicious homemade food using local produce and the shop stocks a range of quality gift items and plants.
