The Original Garden Visitor's Guide

Centre for Alternative Technology

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) has been inspiring visitors about sustainable practice for over 40 years. With seven acres of hands-on displays, examples of environmentally responsible building, renewable energy, organic gardens, sustainably managed woodlands and kids’ holiday activities, there is something for everyone at CAT.

CAT is situated high up in a former slate quarry, surrounded by glorious countryside, on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. What was once a baron quarry is now a landscape of thriving woodlands and beautiful organic gardens with an abundance of biodiversity.

The new quarry trail takes visitors up above site through the mixed broadleaf woodland and has stunning views into the old quarry and of the reservoir.

Learn more about organic growing, discover forest gardening, get started with composting, or simply stroll around the grounds on a relaxing day out.
