Tucked beneath the Pembrokeshire Preseli Hills, close to the source of the bluestone dolerite rock used to build the inner circle of Stonehenge, is "a magical and inspirational garden like no other. Not yet on every garden lovers radar, but believe me it soon will be, for when a garden is this good word soon gets around"

Created by Christina Shand since 1996 on a 6 acre patch of Pembrokeshire wilderness the garden has evolved within the topography of the old farm and wild landscape with a lack of topsoil, abundance of rock leading to marsh with underlying blue clay. These conditions have been turned to advantage, always working with what is given. The result is intensive planting of colour, foliage and form giving way to borders that cope with a high water table and even wetter Bog Garden. Nicky's Field has geometric blocks of ornamental grasses that play with the wind.

Described as "Brilliantly conceived and beautifully executed this garden works as a whole despite having many distinct areas. It also portrays the personality of its creator better than any other garden I know, from its heart full of colour and fun to its contemplative, wistful fringes, this is Christina's garden".

RHS Partner Garden, one of the seven Great Gardens of West Wales. Quotes, Tony Russell.
