March 25

On Saturday the 1st of February 2020 we mark our season of glorious gardening events, with a celebration of the popular, pretty and plucky little flower – the much loved ‘Snowdrop’.

Opening our gates every weekend in February and March from 10am – 5pm, it is the ideal opportunity to experience a wonderful array of snowdrops, in a truly stunning setting.

Castle Kennedy Gardens undoubtedly one of the most captivating settings to see beautiful swathes of snowdrops emerging from the dark of winter heralding the start of Spring! Thanks to the vigorous planting of the 10th Earl of Stair in the 1840s, to present day gardeners, magnificent carpets of these ‘Fair Maids of February’ are available for everyone to enjoy.

The Gardens are home to incredible displays of Snowdrops especially in and around the 16th century Castle ruin where over ten varieties can be viewed in the Walled Garden. This year the Snowdrops have already made an appearance in perfect timing for weekend opening hours from 10am – 5pm from Saturday 1st of February.

A special 3 mile route has been created around the picturesque Black Loch – ideal for walking or driving round – taking in the Tongue Burn, a delightful burn running through the heart of the woodlands, which hosts delightful displays of Snowdrops. Those visitors walking the route can look for the hidden bank full of snowdrops near Tongue Burn and experience this truly magical viewing point for themselves. The shores of the Black Loch are also included in the new walking route which makes the Gardens the perfect place to explore.

Following the ‘Snowdrop Trail’ visitors to Castle Kennedy Gardens are encouraged to enjoy a hearty bowl of homemade soup and delicious, home baking in the Garden’s Tearoom where only the best of fresh, local produce is served.  The tearoom is operating a special weekend menu alongside deliciously moorish home baking. There is also a chance to buy some bulbs and start your own snowdrop garden for future generations to enjoy!

Everyone, from Galathophiles to families, come and enjoy this humble and hardy little flower in a wonderful 75 acre backdrop of lochs, woods and Walled garden!
