About the Event
‘In the footsteps of the Plant hunters’
Enjoy a presentation given by writer and presenter Matthew Biggs about the era of the great Victorian plant hunters whose introductions transformed British gardening, reaching its peak in the Victorian era with many surviving varieties still at Borde Hill. They worked not only for nurseries but private collectors, among them Colonel Stephenson Robert Clarke of Borde Hill Garden who sponsored, among others, George Forrest, Ernest Wilson and Frank Kingdon-Ward; many of their plants still remain in the collection.
This talk considers the lives of our most famous plant hunters, tells tales of their extraordinary adventures and reveals many of the plants they introduced. It is certain to add excitement to the plants, not only at Borde Hill but in every garden.
Then see the plants in real life grown to champion specimens during an extended walk through the Borde Hill collection in our Garden, Parkland and Woods
