A one acre plantsperson’s paradise containing over 3,000 different choice varieties of herbaceous perennials, roses, trees and shrubs, many rare and unusual. Designed over twenty years and still being added to, they provide a nine-month celebration of colour, showing what is possible on the heaviest of clay. The gardens are arranged into areas with different growing conditions to provide inspiration to gardeners whatever their soil and aspect. They also provide the propagation material for the nationally renowned nursery that annually sells over 2,000 different varieties of plant.

In the spring the shade garden is full of Erythroniums, Trilliums, and other woodland gems later these include hardy orchids, Veratrums, Monkshoods and the famous ‘Hosta Walk’. New beds feature our Plant Heritage, National Collection of Astrantias and innovative sand beds dedicated to Mediterranean, North American and alpine plants. Hot borders, cottage garden areas, plant amphitheatre, herbaceous borders, colour themed beds, Dierama fringed patio and a pond with opulently planted margins provide colour throughout the seasons. September and October bring an autumn climax with grasses, Asters and our second National Collection of Hardy Chrysanthemums, including the largest range of these for sale in Europe, these all help to brighten the shortening days.

Recently had feature articles in Country Life and the RHS Garden Magazine, also named as being in the top 50 nurseries by Gardens Illustrated and voted by the Hardy Plant Society to be one of the top gardens to see herbaceous perennials.
