The Original Garden Visitor's Guide

Old Court Nurseries

At the foot of the Malvern Hills you will find the Picton Garden, an ever evolving plantsman’s paradise. Established in the early 1980’s on part of the Old Court Nurseries site, renowned for its Michaelmas daisies since 1906.

The garden is now an acre and a half with well-established trees and shrubs all selected for their excellent autumn features, be it foliage colour, fruit or flowers. These trees and shrubs provide a superb backdrop for the main attraction, the National Collection of Michaelmas Daisies. Over 430 varieties bring an astonishing amount of colour from end of July until mid-October, reaching their peak during the last week of September and first week of October.

For many years this beautiful garden has only been open during the autumn. However, those same trees and shrubs that add so much during this period have provided an exciting opportunity for under planting.

Over the last 5 years large areas of the garden have been redeveloped using a fantastic range of bulbs and woodland perennials adding interest much earlier in the year. There is now something to be enjoyed throughout the year and many changes to be explored.

The winding paths take you on a gentle meander through the open herbaceous areas, into the woodland plantings passing through little glades and even a silver garden, eventually bringing you out to the nursery where you can hunt out your own plant gems to take home with you.
