Picton Castle

Owned and run by the Picton Castle Trust and an RHS Partner Garden, Picton Castle & Gardens sits within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park - Britain's only coastal National Park. Exotic species co-exist with native flora in forty acres of gardens, home to the largest collection of cultivated plants in West Wales, and The Welsh Owl Garden and Zoo, where daily flying displays delight visitors throughout the summer months.

An award winning garden for all seasons, from March onwards Peep-In-Walk provides rich diversity and colour; May peaks with the flowering of masses of Rhododendrons, many bred at Picton, including 'Salmon Jubilee' and 'Picton Maid'. The historic Walled Garden is planted for year round interest - full of vibrant colour, medicinal herbs and a Fernery. Treasures such as Crinodendron and Eucryphia follow, complemented by Head Gardener Roddy Milne's new introductions of hydrangeas, ornamental grasses and fresh plantings to provide autumn colour. To the west of the Castle are The Avenues, dominated by two Giant Redwoods (Sequoiadendron --giganteum) and two massive 300-year old oaks. Rarities include the world's largest Rhododendron 'Old Port', Cryptomeria japonica 'Elegans' - a conifer like a miniature forest - and a fine Metasequoia glyptostroboides which was presumed extinct until rediscovered in China in 1941.
