RHS Garden Harlow Carr: Yorkshire's Must Visit Garden

Harlow Carr captures the essence of Yorkshire within a beautiful garden setting. On the outskirts of Harrogate, in 68 acres of glorious wooded valley, this must-visit garden inspires with its innovative design and creative planting. Originally opened by the Northern Horticultural Society as Harlow Carr Botanical Gardens in 1950, the garden has continued to develop since the amalgamation with the RHS in 2001, with features evoking the surrounding landscapes, including water features, dry stone walling and wooded areas.

Spring sees over ¼ million bulbs including snowdrops, daffodils, bluebells, iris, crocus and grape hyacinths, whilst in May rhododendrons of all shapes and sizes, ranging from white to scarlet, are a must-see. The herbaceous borders and scented gardens are a summer highlight, with fabulous colour and fragrance, as well as the botanical treasures in the Alpine House, and vibrant Streamside primulas and wildflower meadows. In Autumn there are wonderful late perennials, grasses and vibrant foliage, with rich autumnal colour in the woodland and arboretum. Enjoy specially created winter walks, with winter flowering trees, fragrant shrubs and a mix of colourful stems. A calendar of events includes the Spring Festival (4-5 May), the RHS Harlow Carr Garden Flower Show (21-23 June), the Sweet Pea Weekend (13-14 July) and the Orchid Weekend (3-4 August).
