Walled Garden Baumber is a rare doubled-walled garden set in the heart of Lincolnshire. There is ample parking, delightful tearooms and an inspiring plant sales area within the garden.
Dating from 1826 the Walled Garden will be celebrating its 200th birthday in 2026 and what a transformation this 4-acre space has gone through. Once the kitchen garden for Stourton Hall, which was demolished in the 1950s, the garden has been transformed into a unique space for visitors to enjoy.
When owners Sonia and Dave Elton took on the derelict plot in 2007, it was an overgrown and forgotten space. Today, it bursts with life, colour and character.
One thing that really makes the Walled Garden Baumber stand out from the crowd is its abundance of exotic and unusual plants-from Tetrapanax Rex, Acacias, Echium on the West facing wall to the Cacti and Agave in the courtyard gardens of Mexico, on the South facing wall.
The garden unfolds into a series of distinct areas featuring its own wildlife pond, an ornamental beach garden and peaceful zen-inspired spaces. The beach garden, in particular, has become a haven for pollinators with its captivating display of Echinops, Eryngium and beach grasses drawing in bees and wildlife throughout the summer in the loose swathes of natural planting.
Quirky, imaginative, and ever-changing with the seasons, the Walled Garden reflects the creative mind of designer Sonia Elton, whose travels around the world continue to inspire the garden's evolving character and design.
