Stowe - National Trust
The scale and beauty of Stowe has attracted visitors for over 300 years. Picture-perfect views, winding paths, lakeside walks and temples are immersed in over 250 acres of garden. Full of hidden meaning, the gardens were created as an earthly paradise, still casting their spell today. Stowe is still defined by the style of the eighteenth century; allowing the seasons to enhance the landscape with carpets of ‘Stowedrops’, spring flowers, wildflowers and bright autumnal displays.
Visit Stowe in 2018 to discover the stories of the women of Stowe. In the spring we will be voting for the females we would grant a place to in our ‘Temple of the British Worthies’, with the results drawn in the autumn. Explore the myths of Venus and Persephone, and see how they relate to the hidden depths and layers of the gardens.
