York Gate Garden is an enchanting Arts and Crafts style garden on the outskirts of Adel, where 14 individual garden rooms nestle in one acre beside a striking sand garden and tranquil meadow walk.
We start the year with the dainty blooms of snowdrops and colourful gems as the garden begins to come to life. A palette of colour bursts to life in spring and summer with tulips, bulging borders, tropical leafy plants, succulent exotics and a meadow full of wildflowers and wildlife. Timeless structure draws the eye in autumn and winter with a masterpiece of pattern and topiary. The ancient Adel woods create a scenic backdrop.

Its plant centre has a wide range of plants, including those propagated from the garden, its gift shop is stocked with seasonal cards, stationery and gifts for gardeners, and its popular cafe serves homegrown produce.

An award-winning visitor attraction with four consecutive Travellers' Choice awards (2022 - 2025), landing it a place among travellers' favourites and in the top 10% of Tripadvisor attractions worldwide.

In 1994, following the death of Sybil Spencer, the garden was generously gifted to Perennial, the UK's only charity dedicated to helping everyone who works in horticulture and their families by providing free, essential advice, support, services and a helpline for anyone in horticulture from new starters to retirees.
